Job Title: Spa Massage Therapist
Department: The Spa

Summary: To conduct yourself in a professional manner while working with guests of the hotel and spa. To provide the guest/client with the treatment they requested to the best of your abilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following: (Other duties may be assigned, as needed)
Must have knowledge of all aspects of the spa facilities and fitness center.
Must have knowledge of all prices, information packets, specials, etc.
Must be able to perform all required services including:
Massage Treatments (Swedish, Deep Tissue, Himalayan Salt Stones, Pregnancy, CBD)
Body Wraps
Hand and Foot Treatments
Hair and Scalp Treatment
Service enhancements including a variety of oil and aroma options
Monthly or seasonal specials that include varieties of above services and/or new promotional products.
Must use proper draping techniques.
Must be able to adhere to spa protocol including choreographed massage and body protocols.
Must be capable of learning protocols quickly and of modifying treatments according to written protocols.
To perform scheduled service in scheduled room. To work on a variety of different tables and in a variety of room sizes.
Review activity sheet and intake forms, consult with the Spa Coordinator or Lead Therapist if there are any questions or concerns.
To follow the assigned protocol for each treatment, as outlined in the Spa Procedure Manual.
Call the spa the evening before your scheduled shift for your appointment schedule (if you do not receive a call / email).
Return calls from the spa in a timely manner, while on call (within 15 minutes) or the appointment will be given to the next therapist and it will count as an absence.
Review the NOTES section of your activity sheet for any special requests, room assignments, birthdays, surprises, etc.
Familiarize yourself with the client’s agenda while in the spa.
Introduce yourself to the client in a calm, respectful and professional manner.
Escort the client from the ground floor lobby area to the locker room and give them instructions on changing, robes, etc.
Verbally complete intake form in PRIVATE to discuss any concerns or contraindications with the treatment requested. Look up listed conditions / medications as necessary. Suggest other treatments if medical information deems treatment is contraindicated.
Be professional while working with the client. DO NOT talk unless the client continues to do so. Topics that SHOULD NOT be discussed include: work, religion, politics, and any other topic that may be offensive to the client.
Treatments are to be done in the room assigned.
Start on time and finish within the allotted time for the treatment. If your client is late, you must consult the desk to determine if the treatment time will be shortened or if a full length service will still be provided.
Up sell clients in the privacy of the treatment rooms and recommend other treatments that we offer. To inform desk of all treatment upgrades to ensure proper charges are made.
Sell retail products at the conclusion of the treatment, leaving a recommendation form at the desk when necessary.
Escort the client back to the locker rooms and point out the spa amenities.
Handle products in a sanitary manner, clean and disinfect all instruments after use.
Clean rooms when finished; includes bottles, implements, floors, replace dirty linens, return equipment to the proper location and set for the next therapist/client.
Handle dirty linens in a sanitary manner. Restock clean linens as needed.
Treat repeat clients in The Spa only. Do not provide personal contact information or any information about outside work, both massage and otherwise.
Sell to the client a future appointment before you leave them.
Find coverage for a shift that you are unable to work.
Must be available to attend occasional meetings and trainings outside of normally scheduled shifts and Spa Special events. Must be willing to perform chair massage, promotional work and runner duties at an hourly rate when required on shift.
Must train on new service protocols in a timely fashion and be prepared to perform services by specified date. New services may be added during employment and will be a requirement of continued employment at The Spa.
Retain and adhere to the Spa Manual.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential job duties satisfactorily. Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Must be able to calculate and assess time increments.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must have a valid license to practice in the State of Maine.
Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to learn and perform treatment procedures from a written protocol.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand for long periods of time and reach with hands and arms. The employee is often required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to perform 6-8 hours of treatment with 10 minute breaks in between. The employee must be able to perform light and deep pressure massage. It is expected that the service provider will know and practice proper body mechanics throughout their workday. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include; close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust and focus.
